Bank Holiday Weekend in Brugges!

I had a simply wonderful Bank Holiday weekend! I went to Bruges with my bf. The first holiday of the year where it was just me and him. What can I tell you about Bruges... Hmmmm....

Well... Bruges is beautiful. Despite being so small, it has 27 Churches (or so the man on the boat told us). Considering there was a church round most corners, I would say he was probably telling the truth. Other than churches, there were lots of chocolate and lace shops everywhere. The chocolate shops were funny as some of them sold chocolate boobs, willies and even vaginas (which I found totally gross!) I had to take a pic of these as no one would believe me otherwise! And the worst part was they were in the window for all to see. I would hate to be a mother explaining that to my 5 year old lol!

First thing we did was to go on the canal boat ride, which was great! There were some breath taking sights that could only really be appreciated on this type of trip and it was a great way to have a quick tour of the city before we decided on where to go and what to see. There were swans and ducks on the embankments and as we sailed past one of the housed, there was a Golden Labrador standing on the windowsill barking! You couldn't have wished for a scene more perfect. I got some great snaps!!!

We discovered a lovely little tearoom which served the most delicious pancakes and waffles! It was our breakfast and afternoon tea spot for the duration of the holiday! What I would do to have something like that near where I live! It was wonderful. The woman who owned the tearoom was lovely and had the most amazing hair!!!

We spent the weekend just looking at all the sights, doing a little shopping and eating lots of waffles and pancakes (or crepes as they are called there). Near perfection. The food was nice, I tried the mussels there. Very nice they were too! On the final night we went to a restaurant called Mojo which wasn't overly touristic. We were informed that it was where the locals ate and it certainly seem to be the case when we got there! Funnily enough, we bumped into the tearoom lady who had come with her partner. Quite random I thought!

Almost forgetting our hotel which I must NOT do! We stayed in this lovely 4* hotel. The name escapes me at the moment. But, we had the 'Romantic Garden Room' and it was exactly that! Finally a place in Europe that has a bath, not just a shower! lol! The hotel had these beautiful paintings by a lady called Minstrel, which I will look into now that I am back. They were all fantasy style paintings of fairies, ogres etc. The staff were really friendly and helpful and I can't recommend it enough.

Anyone who is looking for a beautiful romantic place must go to Bruges! It really is one of the best places I have been.
